RED EYES - How to avoid Irritation

There are several things that cause red eyes during/after the treatment.

Red & Itchy Eyes After Lash Extension Application

— The most common reason why your client may wake up from their lash nap with red, itchy eyes is because their eyes were not fully sealed during the application process. Since the eye is partially open, it may experience irritation from the adhesive fumes.

SOLUTION: Since it can be difficult to tell if your clients’ eyes are fully closed, many lash professionals use the Reflector TM. This small,hand-held mirror gives you a 360° view of your client’s eyes and lashes to ensure the eyelids are properly sealed. When applying lash extensions, you should check to make sure your clients’ eyes are closed completely before and during the service.

Irritated Under-eye Skin

— This reaction often occurs when lash artists use medical tape to hold down the bottom lashes. If the skin where you placed the tape is irritated or red, your client likely has skin sensitivities.

SOLUTION: Try using Gel Patches to hold down the bottom lashes instead of tape. Patches require the least amount of adhesive to stick to the skin. The patches also cool, soothe, and smooth under-eye skin, which can help combat irritation or redness. Irritated Eyelid Skin After Eyelash Extensions If the skin of your clients’ eyelid is irritated, swollen, or red, you may have placed the extension too close to the base of the natural lash.

Irritated Eyelid Skin After Eyelash Extensions

If the skin of your clients’ eyelid is irritated, swollen, or red, you may have placed the extension too close to the base of the natural lash.

SOLUTION: To avoid irritated eyelids, carefully place each extension in the right place. Once you’ve completed your lash set, check each extension to make sure no bases are touching the skin.

ADHESIVE WITH VERY STRONG FUMES AND GLUING PLACEMENT

— That’s a huge no-no! Lash adhesives that contain very strong ingredients like formaldehyde or latex are very dangerous not only to your client, but also to you as well. These types of glues aren’t cosmetic grade so they can be very harmful to the eyes and the health. Also, placing eye pad and eye tape too close to the waterline can cause irratation afterward.

SOLUTION: Spending a bit of more time researching the ingredients of what goes into your glue won’t hurt. And, correctly attached extensions should be glued at 0,5 - 1 mm from the eyelid skin. If the eyelash stylist attaches them directly to the skin of the eyelids or to the roots. We recommend a minimum of 5 minutes rest time after the treatment to avoid any glue vapour entering the eye.

*But the most uncomon that eyelash artists are not aware of is the eye pad. If the pad is attached too close to the mucosa, or even the client laughs or talks during the treatment, the eye pads may shift and it's can cause irritation.

SOLUTION: Always remember to place the pads a bit lower while still making sure the bottom lashes are properly pulled down.
